B.A.R.F. Night

(...not to be confused with what happened Saturday night at our house...)  Each month Awanas has a theme night to make things fun.  Tonight was B.A.R.F. (Bring A Real Friend) night at Awanas.  Chaney chose to bring her friend Audrey tonight.   These two are so cute together.

Tucker had to bring a stuffed animal instead.  The "Cubbies" have maxed out their space and number of kids so they had no extra room for "real friends."  Cowie made his appearance tonight.

...and anytime you do real pictures you always need a goofy one.

Both the kids said their memory verse tonight.  Chaney is officially a "Sparks."  Tucker received his vest and now he can wear that every week.  All the kids enjoyed their night out.

Butt Which One?

Call me crazy or just maybe a normal mom who loves little pics of her baby's butts.  Can you tell which set is which?

Helping Dad

This morning we had some chores that had to be done.  The kids begged and begged to help Josh change the oil in his car so he let them.  They thought it was pretty cool.  They really liked the part where the car was up high so they could get under it.

This little guy did his best to get with the big kids and daddy but the garage just has too much to offer so he was all over the place...and his dirty hands and feet prove it.

Lunch with Chaney

Last week Chaney asked Josh to come eat lunch with her and they decided on a lunch date today.  Josh worked from home in the morning and went and grabbed lunch for them.  He was able to meet Chaney's friends and even played with her at recess.  Her friends thought it was really cool that her dad came to eat with her.

PS-It is not easy to find a place that serves "real" food at 10:15 am.  Her lunch time is 10:30 so about the only place that serves lunch is Subway....good thing she likes that place.

 *please try to ignore the butt of the person bending over in the background...just noticed that.  The white pants kinda makes it stand out.  Yowza!

Chaney likes to play with the boys at recess, this kind of reminds me of someone else I know...

Awana

The kids are now in their second week of Awanas and they are loving it.  We really had no intention of getting them involved or even really knew what it was.  A lady that was in my bible study brought it to my attention at the David Crowder concert and invited our kids to go.  Josh and I talked and decided to try the first night to see if the kids liked it and they loved it.  Chaney is able to see some kids from her school and Tucker loves to go play with new kids.  They meet every Wednesday evening for 90 minutes at Brandywine (BRCC's daughter church here in town).  It runs from August to April and basically runs of GCHS's school calendar so we get fall break, Christmas break and spring break off.  We wanted to get the kids involved in something for the winter but were not sure what to do.  We are trying to hold out on sports until the last possible moment.  (All parents have these visions of their kids being NBA, NFL or Major League ballers so I guess it doesn't really matter when we get them started, right?....insert sarcasm:-)) I have this wise sister who said once you start sports then all your kids will want to do it and you will be running everywhere so wait as long as you can. Personally, for us, family time is a big deal so we are not wanting to run all over creation just before we have to.  In my opinion, I hate to waste money for my 2 year old to be on a soccer team just to watch her pick grass or flowers....this is just my opinion.  In addition to this we want our kids in the Bible and memorizing scripture.

Chaney is in the K-2nd grade program called the Sparks.  To even be called a "Spark" she has to memorize John 3:16 and say it to her leader.  This is a long verse for a kindergartener.  After she memorizes the motto or this verse then she will get her book and vest and move through bible verses at her own rate.  She loves to go and see some of her school mates and playing games.

Tucker is in the pre-school program called the Cubbies.  In one week he memorized the motto and the first verse.  His version of the verses are a bit shorter but he still does a good job learning them and is eager to do so each week.  Paislee will even work with him and learn the verse too.

This last week has been an adjustment especially for Chaney because she has to get used to doing her school homework and now we are adding on more homework for her in memorizing her verses.  In addition to the verse each week the lesson has a story and is a great time to spend one on one with each child.  Tucker already received his book and will get his vest in a week or so.  They can get patches for their vest which serves for more motivation to do more things.  Tucker is thriving in it.  Last week he ran up to his leader and said his verse and motto before class officially began.  We are so happy that he is loving this.  Each month they will have a fun night where they can do fun things: crazy hair night, beach day, BARF night, etc.

Another great thing about this is that they can continue this through sixth grade.  Awana actually has programs from ages 2 through a senior in high school.  However, Brandywine is offering it from ages 3-6th grade.  We are hoping the kids will enjoy it enough to stick with it for a few years.

Funnies

Every so often I post funny things that the kids say or do so I can keep them forever.  Here are a few from each child.

Chaney:
-The kids started Awanas last week. (More on Awanas in another post) On top of her homework      from school she now has a memory verse that she is to learn each week.  Her memory verse this week is John 3:16 and as we were practicing she accidentally switched "eternal life" for "normal life."  So her version sounded like this "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in Him will not not perish but have a normal life."

-Chaney's version on finding a husband = go to college, find a cute boy, date for a few years then get married

Tucker:
-Each night before bed we pray, or one of the kids pray.  One night before bed when Tucker was praying his prayer started out like this, "Dear Jesus, thanks for letting us be awesome..."

-At the dinner table one evening we were talking about something and Tucker started jumping up and down with excitement.  I asked him, "Tuck, are you jumping for joy?"  He stopped and looked at me with all seriousness and asked, "Who is Joy?"

Paislee:
-Since Chaney and Tucker are both working on memory verses each week she feels a little bit left out.  She is trying to memorize Tuck's verses so she goes around the house yelling the verse then the location where it is found.

-Paislee and Tucker were having an intense conversation one day and I hear her scold him and say, "Don't call Jesus ugly, he can probably beat you up."

Rigley:
-Rigley isn't really saying much these days but does do some funny stuff.  He likes to wave and there is no rhyme or reason of when or why he waves, it is pretty random.  One day I was talking to a friend at church and holding him.  I guess he thought I had been talking long enough because he looked at the lady and just started waving like he had enough and wanted to go.

While You Were Sleeping

Paislee fell asleep on the floor this morning for a quick power nap.  While she was out her little brother had a little fun with her.  She did not even know anything was going on.

Henry is One

Henry Jay is one year old today.  We celebrated his birthday today at the church and play land.  Time is  flying by.  It seems like yesterday we were getting a text telling us that a baby boy had finally joined the Nye clan.  Emily and I have been friends for only a few years...like 26 or 27 years...you lose count after a while.  It is so much fun watching our families grow each and every year.

Anna made these cupcakes and the cake and did a fabulous job.  They looked so good.

Play Late

Tonight at the Children's Museum was "play late" night.  For members this is a chance to go and play from 5-9 on a Friday evening.  We invited some friends and had a good ol' time.  We had lots of kids and few pictures but Josh did get a few on his phone.

Crowder Concert

My friend, and running partner, Nicole invited me to go to the State Fair tonight.  David Crowder was on the free stage and it may or may not have been $2 Tuesdays.  We dodged some traffic, actually a lot of traffic, and found our way to some seats that someone saved for us.  We were six rows back and enjoyed an awesome concert.  David and his band broke up earlier this year so his "band" was a hodge podge of other people.  Caedman Call's drummer was his drummer and he had a local girl playing the cello.  They sounded just as good as his band.  To make the night more exciting Nicole's gas light came on while we sat in traffic.  When I say "sat" in traffic, I means like almost 45 minutes of sitting.  I really thought I was going to be pushing her car into the gas station.  Good news is we made it and I didn't have to push.

My cousin Taylor was there also and found David Crowder out wandering around the fair and got their picture taken with him.  As young folks do, they flocked to the stage, so Taylor went up and got another picture.  The old(er) person that I am stayed back and enjoyed resting or sitting once or twice.

The video below is of one of my favorite songs that he sings.  I love this song!

Weigh In

Just for fun today we decided to weigh the kids after we got home from church.  We hardly ever weigh them or see what their heights are.  Today we didn't do height just weight.  But, I think it is safe to say that the oldest two are very tall for their age.  Here are their weights:

Chaney = 60.2 lbs
Tucker = 59.4 lbs
Paislee = 30.1 lbs
Rigley = 22.9 lbs

Playset to a Fort

This morning we were all out enjoying the cool morning.  We had some chores to do and mowed the yard.  I think this is the first time we have mowed since June.  Our yard is starting to come back to life and is actually green.  The drought may have killed off our grass but we had enough weeds to make up for it.  I guess this fall we may be planting more grass seed...probably just in time for the geese to come back.

While we were working the kids asked if we could make a fort.  So, while Josh mowed I did my best to make a fort.  Josh is the supreme fort maker around this house, not me.  When push came to shove and I was tired of falling blankets I did the smart thing and pulled out the staple gun.  Yes, that's right, a staple gun to the blanket.  (no worries, it was an old blanket that had already taken a lot of abuse.) The kids added their own personal touch with the princess blanket and the spongebob blanket.  (These blankets are not stapled on.)  I'm sure you can tell who picked out these.  The kids took out all their goodies and played up there for a couple hours.

On a side note, it's funny to hear the difference in what the boys and girls call this.

Boy's Version: it's a fort and they take swords and guns up to play, they spy on people
Girl's Version: it's a dressing room, they take food and make-up and do make overs

9 Month Visit

Today Rigley went in for his nine month visit. This visit is when they get poked and have the iron levels in their blood tested. The doctor was running behind today so the nurse came in before we saw the doctor. I played peek-a-boo with Riggy while she poked him and got blood. He didn't even know anything happened. His blood was within normal limits so he is good to go. Rigley is still a happy and healthy little boy. His stats are :

Height = 29.5 in = 84%
Weight = 22.9 lbs = 78%
Head = 19.5 in = 99%

And since the doctor was taking f...o...r...e...v...e...r... We decided to have some fun and take some pictures. We had to do something to pass the time.

PS-yes, Rigley is chewing on a ball syringe. It is is favorite thing to chew on. He has about three teeth he is working on and this makes him happy.

Tale of Two Brothers

There once was two brothers who looked so much alike.  Little brother thinks big brother is one of the best things alive.  Little brother likes to mess with big brother.

Apparently little brother was not getting the response he wanted or wanted a little more attention from big brother so he continued to pester him and pick on him.

Big brother gave in...a little and indulged little brother.

Finally, big brother had enough and picked him up and tossed him around a little.  Little brother was happy.

However, little brother was not satisfied. He wanted more.  Back he went to pick on big brother.

And once again, big brother gave in and little brother is soooo happy.
Watching big brother be nice and play with little brother makes this mom happy.

(I apologize for the blurry pictures.  These pics were taken on my iPad and it doesn't do real well on action shots.  I think you can get the point.)

Time for the Gate

Today after taking Paislee up for her nap I came to the stairs to see this little man 5 stairs up. So.... I did what any good parent does and rushed to get the camera (iPod) all while watching to make sure he didn't fall. His previous adventure only took him up one stair, this is his new high. I'm sure he would have gone all the way up had I let him. I think he is pretty proud of his accomplishment. What do you think? Watch out big kids, once he masters the stairs there is no escaping the "little brother."

Some Firsts

Rigley had some corn on the cob for the first time.  I think it's safe to say he liked it.  He loved it so much that when we took it away he screamed like crazy.  He was so sticky that he went immediately to the tub.

And this little girl, or should I say big girl, has decided that she no longer needs her mom to walk her to the bus stop.  She wants to do it on her own.

11 Years

On this day 11 years ago we said "I do." It's amazing what has happened in that time span. I'm so glad he is still my partner in this life we lead. I could not imagine a better man to be my husband and a better father for our kids. He takes such good care of us.

Since we are party animals we decided for a night on the town (insert sarcasm.) Actually, we did go out but far from the party animals. We dropped the kids at Dad and Barbara's and went to dinner at Fire by the Monon. After a nice, quiet, slow-paced dinner we walked the Monon for a bit. (the temp was still like 95* and like 300% humidity) Since it was so hot we used this as an easy excuse to cool off with some ice cream from Brics. The ice cream was delicious and the company was perfect.

While we were out Dad's neighborhood was having a neighborhood party. The kids enjoyed a bounce house, face painting, hamburgers and hot dogs. They went back to the house and played baseball in their face painting. With the heat and humidity their paint was running with the sweat on their face. They looked like a Halloween project.

I'm sure now you understand why they needed a bath immediately. They all had fun and enjoyed their time with papaw and mamaw and we enjoyed the evening out.
