New Year's Eve

Tonight we were all scattered in all different directions.  Tucker went with his buddy bowling.  Paislee and Rigley went with mamaw and papaw.  Chaney went with us over to the Davidson's house.

This year's party was a little smaller than last year.  It was good though.  We played euchre and Cards Against Humanity.  It was a great night.  I think we ended up staying until 2.  By the time we got home and in bed it was about 3.  That's the latest we've been up in a long time.

Christmas at Mom's

Christmas afternoon we headed over to mom's to celebrate Christmas there.  The weather was so nice that the kids played outside most of the evening. It's crazy to think that the weather is almost 60 today.

After dinner and before presents some of the kids gathered around Judy (Doug's mom) to help her read.

Most of the grandkids getting their gifts.

After all the kids got their gifts they all went up to kiss mamaw...

Each year I am especially grateful that we get another year to celebrate with mom.  I love the time that we spend together and just laugh.  These are the times that we all will remember.

Christmas Morning

The kids finally came down close to 8 this morning to open their presents.  They know how the morning goes so they just take their time getting up.

Here they are and barely awake...

This year Chaney volunteered to read the Christmas story from her new Bible that she got at mamaw and papaw's on Monday.

Stocking time...

Rigley started the morning off opening one of his gifts first.

We can't get Pais to pose right for a picture.  She got lots of art items.

Chaney and her new sweatshirt...

It was a Paw Patrol Christmas for Rigley.  Almost all of his gifts were Paw Patrol themed.

Tucker was super excited to get this jersey.  He has been asking for this for a while.

Christmas at Dad's

This is the outfit that Pais wore to church then wore over to dad's for our Christmas gathering there.  She loved wearing it.

I didn't get many pictures tonight.  Rick, Faye and Josh all missed dad's Christmas because of sickness.

Josh is still sick so we decided to leave the house.  He's been sick since Wednesday and still not better.
Tonight was travel team introductions at the high school game.  Technically, Tucker is not supposed to be running or jumping but he did run across the floor.  He just got his walking boot off on Wednesday.

He's at the back of the group.

Dinner with Cousins

Tonight we went and had dinner with the cousins before they leave to head back to Georgia.  We tried to get some pictures of them.  Real and goofy pictures....it gets harder and harder for them to do 'real' pictures. Josh missed having dinner with us.  He started running fever last night.  We left him home to  sleep in a quiet house.

Funeral Day

Today was not only Paislee's birthday but it was the day that we laid Grandpa Short to rest.  We picked up the kids from school so they could come to the funeral.  We've all been sick the last few weeks that we wouldn't let them go to the hospital.  They never really got to say their goodbyes until today.

After the funeral Josh went in the caravan to the graveside.  We filled the van up with kids and took our time getting to the church for dinner.  The kids were watching Minions and goofing around.

At the dinner these two decided to stay inside and find a device instead of going back outside.  Addie is almost two years older than Rigley.  Rigley is about one inch taller than she is.

Birthday Celebration

Today we got to celebrate this 6 year old.  It's not really the way we wanted to spend today but things happen that are beyond our control.  Today Pais woke up to her cake and candles.

We tried to get some pictures and this is what we got...

Her teacher sent me some pics from school.  Paislee and her buddy Sullivan share the same birthday so they were able to both celebrate at school.

Happy 6th Paislee

Happy 6th Birthday Paislee!

Dear Paislee,

You are now 6.  Your personality is more like you are 13.  You are  quite a crazy girl.  Each morning you wake up and are mad at the world.  You come down with an attitude and like to complain a lot.  Then, after a few minutes and eating some food you begin to perk up.  Finally, you become pleasant to be around.  You have mood swings that I hope will get better by the time you are 13 but I'm pretty sure they won't.  I'm most certain that your mood swings are directly correlated with how much food is in your belly.  Funny how that always seems to work.

This past year was a big year for you.  You started kindergarten.  You love it.  Each day you come home and tell us about everything everybody does in class.  When we ask you what you learned you are never really sure what you did that day.  You are a little social butterfly.  You are always talking about someone different each day.  When we talked to your teacher in October she was telling us how much of a helper you are in class.  You are always the first to volunteer to help the teacher out in any way.

Since starting school in August you are starting to read a little bit.  This is both exciting and frustrating for you.  You try and want to be ahead of the kindergarten level but get frustrated when you have to sound out words instead of already knowing them.  Tucker went through the same phase. Each day you come home from school you want to play school with Rigley.  He sits attentively and listens and plays with you while you 'teach' him on what to do.  You also love to come home and write and color and draw.  Playing with dolls doesn't interest you at all.  You always draw us pictures and notes telling us how much you love us.

You are still enjoying Awanas.  You have done really well with your verses.  Right now you can say all of the books of the New Testament.  You memorized those so quickly.

Pais, you have quite a spunky personality.  You are always saying funny little things back to your older brother when he picks on you.  Sometimes you don't even have to speak at all and we know exactly what's going through your head by watching your face.  (That is totally from your mother.)

Pais, it is a pleasure to be your parents.  Somedays you make us laugh so hard and you don't even do it on purpose.  You are a delight to have in this family.  I can't wait to see what this year holds for you.  I know one goal that we have set for you is that you learn to ride your bike.  Maybe you'll get a new one for Christmas this year.

We love you bunches Paislee!
